Country Music Hall of Famer John Anderson has died at 71, his family announced in a statement shared on social media Wednesday, Taste of Country reported.

A rep for Anderson confirmed his death to Rolling Stone.

FAMILY STATEMENT

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and best friend," the family wrote, Taste of Country reported.

A post on the singer's social media announcing his death called Anderson a "gifted country music singer whose voice and songs touched countless lives," Rolling Stone reported.

The cause of Anderson's death has not been revealed, Country Now reported.

HIS MUSIC

A native of Apopka, Florida, Anderson moved to Nashville shortly after graduating high school in the early 1970s and signed with Warner Bros. Records in 1980, Country Now reported.

His first Top 5 hit came in 1984 with a cover of Billy Joe Shaver's "I'm Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I'm Gonna Be a Diamond Someday)," according to Country Now.

Rolling Stone reported that his country Number Ones included "Wild and Blue," "Black Sheep" and his signature, "Swingin'."

In the Nineties, he had a career revival with hits like "Straight Tequila Night," "Money in the Bank" and "Seminole Wind," an homage to his home state of Florida, Rolling Stone reported.

HALL OF FAME

Anderson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2024, Rolling Stone reported. "One of the main gratifications is I got to live to see it," he told the magazine then.

He was also inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Country Now reported.

On Sunday, four days before his death, Anderson appeared with his fellow inductees at the Country Music Hall of Fame Medallion Ceremony in Nashville, Rolling Stone reported.
