SpaceX conducted a full-duration 33-engine static-fire test of the Super Heavy booster preparing for Starship Flight 15.
SpaceX lights up South Texas
SpaceX lit up the South Texas coast Sunday morning. The company posted video Sunday afternoon, October 25, writing: “Full duration 33-engine static fire for the Super Heavy booster preparing for Flight 15.”
A static fire is a short engine test on the ground. The rocket does not leave the launch mount. Spaceflight Now and NSF reported that engines lit at about 8:22 a.m. Central on Pad 2 at Starbase, according to The Space Road.
Preparing for Flight 15
SpaceX's post did not name the booster. Next Spaceflight and other independent trackers identified it as Booster 22, a Version 3 Super Heavy prototype. Raumfahrer.net reported that it was expected to fly with Ship 42 on Flight 15 in November.
On SpaceX's October 20 third-quarter earnings webcast, Elon Musk reportedly said Flight 15 was expected “next month” and that SpaceX would “attempt to catch both the booster and the ship,” according to The Space Road. No launch date had been announced by SpaceX at the time of the report, and the flight still required a Federal Aviation Administration license.
