Tornado watches are rare in Arizona. On Wednesday, the state got one.

Storm chaser Reed Timmer (@ReedTimmerUSA) posted this video of a storm west of Williams, Ariz., on X at 2:21 p.m. Central time Wednesday, Oct. 21. He described the storm as a "monster supercell" with a "ground scraper wall cloud." In the clip above, its dark, layered base hangs low over the trees, seen from the road.

The Storm Prediction Center issued Tornado Watch 688 Wednesday morning for Coconino, Mohave, Navajo and Yavapai counties, in effect until 6 p.m. Arizona time (8 p.m. Central). Williams is in Coconino County. It is the first tornado watch in Arizona in 16 years, according to the FOX Forecast Center. FOX Weather also reported a Level 3 of 5 risk of severe storms for Flagstaff and Prescott, with large hail and tornadoes possible.

As of this post, we have not seen confirmation that this storm produced a tornado.

We trimmed this video for length from Reed's original post of about 4½ minutes, and the full version is on his X account.
