GRANBURY — Mailers titled "Texas Trans & LGBTQ+ Student Resource Guide" have reached homes in Granbury, and Hood County Express has received complaints about them from Granbury residents. HCE has obtained a copy of the mailer.
A West Texas district attorney has opened a criminal investigation into the mailers, which have turned up in mailboxes across Texas, FOX 4 reported.
Who sent them, and how the sender got families' addresses, is still unknown, FOX 4 reported.
THE INVESTIGATION
Sarah Stogner, district attorney for Loving, Reeves and Ward counties west of Odessa, told The Texas Tribune her office is investigating the mailers as a potential forgery.
Stogner said the scope could expand as new information comes in, The Texas Tribune reported. She told FOX 4 the investigation could expand to the federal level, depending on what is unearthed.
Stogner told FOX 4 she believes there likely was a political motivation, and she wants to find out who is responsible and where they got Texas families' addresses.
State Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, has sent two letters asking Attorney General Ken Paxton to investigate the origin of the mailers and a series of text messages, The Texas Tribune reported.
The attorney general's office did not respond to a Houston Chronicle request for comment on whether it was looking into the mailers.
WHO IS NAMED AS THE SENDER
The copy HCE obtained lists the sender as the Texas Transgender Student Union, with a return address in Meadows Place, near Houston. It was addressed to the students of a Granbury household. HCE is not identifying the household.
Public corporate records show an entity named Texas Transgender Student Union LLC was filed in Wyoming on Sept. 2, 2026, FOX 4 reported. The names of the actual filers are not public, FOX 4 reported.
WFAA reported it traced the company to an office building in Sheridan, Wyo., where about 300,000 companies are registered. Wyoming's public business records generally don't require LLC owners to identify themselves, WFAA reported.
Northwest Registered Agent, which was involved in the registration, told WFAA on Thursday it is resigning as the company's registered agent and that it cooperates fully with law enforcement investigations.
FOX 4 found that the Meadows Place street address on the envelopes doesn't exist. The group appears to have no website and no public social media presence, CBS News Texas reported.
Both the U.S. Senate campaigns of Ken Paxton and James Talarico told CBS News Texas they had no involvement with the mailer.
NBC 5 reported the mailers arrived at many Republican and Hispanic households during the first two days of early voting.
WHAT THE GROUPS NAMED SAY
The mailer points readers to the Transgender Education Network of Texas, known as TENT, and also lists OutYouth, the Montrose Center, Resource Center Dallas, Lambda Legal and the ACLU of Texas, according to the copy HCE obtained.
TENT said in a statement on its website that the mailers "were not authored, authorized, approved, or distributed by TENT and are not affiliated with our organization."
Three other organizations named in the flyers also denied involvement, the fact-checking site Lead Stories reported.
On Thursday, TENT filed a petition in Travis County court under Rule 202 of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, which lets parties seek depositions before formally filing a lawsuit, as it tries to identify those responsible, The Advocate reported.
WHAT THE MAILER SAYS
The copy HCE obtained includes sections titled "What to do if your parents don't support you," "What if I want to be emancipated?" and "Can I go out of state for care?"
It also promotes TENT's "Trans Texas Takeover" fall tour, listing stops that include Fort Worth on 10/24 and Dallas on 10/25, according to the copy HCE obtained.
TENT said it has suspended the tour "due to increased safety threats and risks," Texarkana Today reported.
EDITOR'S NOTE
Hood County Express is not publishing the name or address of any household that received the mailer, and HCE's photo does not show the mailing panel.
