MIDDAY LEAD
BOWLS OF HOPE SUPPORTS FOOD PANTRY
Mission Granbury's second Bowls of Hope fundraiser drew more people than its first, Executive Director Kurt Turner told Hood County News in a report published today.
The Oct. 17 event at Granbury Square Plaza brought together local chefs, musicians and artists. Visitors could buy decorative bowls made for the fundraiser, with proceeds supporting Mission Granbury's food pantry.
Turner said all money raised would help the pantry. The report did not give a fundraising total or an attendance count.
NEWS FROM AROUND TEXAS
CARRIER PLANS $600M-PLUS FORT WORTH PLANT
Carrier announced Thursday that it plans to invest more than $600 million over three years in a Fort Worth manufacturing and engineering center.
The company expects operations to begin in 2027 at a facility exceeding 1 million square feet, with 1,500 manufacturing, engineering and other jobs planned.
It will produce commercial cooling equipment for customers including data centers, hospitals and schools. Carrier says it will partner with local schools and colleges on workforce training.
TEXAS LOGS 13,459 NEW JOBLESS CLAIMS
Texas recorded an advance total of 13,459 initial unemployment-benefit claims for the week ending Oct. 17, the U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday. That state figure is not seasonally adjusted.
Nationally, seasonally adjusted initial claims fell to 194,000, down 6,000 from the previous week's revised 200,000.
The figures count applications for unemployment benefits, not all job losses. State and national totals use different seasonal treatments.
BOTTOM LINE
Bowls of Hope proceeds support Mission Granbury's food pantry.
Carrier plans 1,500 jobs at a new Fort Worth facility.
The city reported an eastbound US 377 closure this morning; check for reopening updates before traveling.
