One of Granbury’s own is headed to Nashville this weekend — and he’ll be walking into the legendary Grand Ole Opry House as an award nominee.
Granbury native Beau Harris has been nominated for Song of the Year — Country Male, Division G, at the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards for his country single “Oughta See the Other Guy.”
The honor puts Harris among independent artists selected from more than 101,000 submissions received by the awards organization this year.
“This nomination means the world,” Harris said. “Coming from Texas and watching this song connect with people has been incredible.”
Harris will head to Nashville for a weekend that begins with the JMA Music Conference on Saturday, September 19th, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.
The awards ceremony follows Sunday, September 20th, at the Grand Ole Opry House.
“To have it recognized on a stage like the Josie Music Awards, especially with the incredible writing and production team behind it, is a dream come true,” Harris said. “I’m headed to Nashville proud to represent Texas independent country music.”
“Oughta See the Other Guy” was written by Nashville songwriters Brad McKinney, Elizabeth Eckert and Derek James and produced by Denton producer Elijah M. Parr.
Harris currently plays bass for Denton-based artist Cameron Hobbs while continuing to develop his own career as a singer and recording artist.
In recent years, Harris has been writing and recording his own material while building a growing catalog of independent country releases.
The Josie Music Awards were founded in 2015 and recognize independent artists, songwriters, musicians and music-industry professionals working outside the traditional major-label system.
For Harris, Sunday night represents something considerably closer to home: a Granbury musician taking a song recorded in North Texas all the way to one of country music’s most famous stages.
Whatever happens when the award is announced, Beau Harris will enter the Grand Ole Opry House this weekend as an official Josie Music Awards nominee — representing Granbury and Texas independent country music in Nashville.
Good luck in Nashville, Beau. Hood County will be watching.
