TWO EX-FBI OFFICIALS CHARGED WITH LYING TO CONGRESS

Two former senior FBI officials are facing criminal charges for allegedly making false statements to Congress during testimony in 2023, CBS News reported.

Nikki Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, appeared in federal court in Washington on Friday. Each faces a single count tied to their testimony about the FBI's Hunter Biden investigations, NPR reported.

They were charged by complaint, which means prosecutors have yet to secure an indictment from a grand jury.

Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui said the way the case was charged seemed "strange" and rejected a prosecution request to delay the preliminary hearing.

"The alleged conduct happened years ago," said Ron Safer, an attorney for Benavides. Floris' attorneys said she has been falsely accused. Neither has been convicted.

DOJ SUES TO BLOCK ALASKA SENATE CERTIFICATION

The Trump administration is suing to prevent the Alaska Senate election from being certified if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses to Democrat Mary Peltola, CBS News reported.

At issue is a second Daniel J. Sullivan, a teacher, who is among the four candidates in the state's ranked-choice contest.

The Justice Department argues the ballot "threatens to mislead Alaskan citizens."

Peltola's campaign called the suit "a despicable political threat to overturn an election."

TRUMP CUTS SOME CANADA TARIFFS, ADDS OTHERS

President Trump on Friday slashed tariffs on a handful of Canadian products widely used by Maine's agricultural industry, a move Sen. Susan Collins cheered, CBS News reported.

Corrugated boxes, crates, plastic sacks, packing machinery, refrigeration equipment and seaweed are no longer subject to 50% tariffs.

Several new categories of Canadian products, including shampoo, vinyl flooring and coffins, were hit with 50% duties in exchange.

Rep. Richard Neal, a Democrat, said the change was made "to favor a political ally 11 days before an election."

Humana's exit will affect roughly 600,000 enrollees. The company said most affected members will be offered an alternative plan.

UnitedHealthcare is closing a plan for roughly 390,000 members, who will have access to another UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan.
