🗳️ TRUMP APPROVAL SINKS TO 34% IN NEW NBC NEWS POLL AS MIDTERMS NEAR
Some 71% of U.S. adults say the country is on the "wrong track," the highest share yet in President Trump's second term, according to a new NBC News Decision Desk Poll.
Trump's approval rating slipped to 34% among adults, a second-term low in the poll. Among registered voters, it stands at 39%.
Registered voters prefer Democrats over Republicans to control Congress, 55% to 45%. Still, just 43% of adults view the Democratic Party favorably.
Only 14% said they expect to receive the $5,000 payment Trump has promised if Republicans keep control of Congress.
The poll of 19,135 adults was conducted online Sept. 28 to Oct. 12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.

⚽ TRUCK DRIVES ONTO WICHITA YOUTH SOCCER FIELD, KILLING A BOY AND A MAN
A 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man were killed Saturday when a truck drove onto a field during a youth soccer game in Wichita, Kansas, police said, CBS News reported.
Police said both victims were from McPherson, Kansas, and were not related.
At least 10 other people were injured at the Stryker Sports Complex, NBC News reported.
The 34-year-old driver was taken into custody, then released pending toxicology testing and a mechanical examination of the vehicle, police said Sunday. No charges have been filed.
Police said the driver's two children were inside the pickup. It is unclear whether the crash was intentional.
"Today is a heartbreaking day for Wichita," Mayor Lily Wu said Saturday.

🇺🇦 BESSENT WON'T SAY WHETHER UKRAINE IS A U.S. ALLY
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dodged three times Sunday when asked whether Ukraine is an ally of the United States, NBC News reported.
Asked a third time on NBC's "Meet the Press," Bessent said, "I'm not the secretary of state. I'm not the president."
He said the U.S. supports Ukraine in three key ways: intelligence, Starlink support and letting NATO buy U.S. weapons to resell to Ukraine.
Bessent spoke shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the same program it would be a "historic mistake" for the U.S. to side with Russia.
He denied that President Trump lifted any sanctions on Russia, saying Trump wanted a 60-day pause. "The only thing that has been lifted is the diesel embargo," he said.

⛳ TRUMP SAYS HE WILL CLOSE HISTORIC D.C. GOLF COURSE FOR 15 MONTHS
President Trump said Sunday he will close the East Potomac Golf Course in Washington for 15 months starting Nov. 15 and redevelop it, despite an ongoing court challenge, NBC4 Washington reported.
Trump said the new public course could hold tournaments such as the U.S. Open. He called the current course "old, broken, dilapidated."
A federal judge last week halted the redevelopment until at least Oct. 26, after the government started large-scale tree removal at the course over a holiday weekend.
U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes has a hearing scheduled Monday in the lawsuit. The administration has asked that she be replaced on the case.

🔥 NORTE FIRE 60% CONTAINED IN ORANGE COUNTY
The Norte Fire in Orange County had burned 570 acres and was 60% contained as of CAL FIRE’s 5:11 p.m. update Sunday, October 18.
Evacuation orders for San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano were lifted Saturday evening, with restrictions remaining on Via La Mirada and within the burned area.
